Restarting Activities

We are eager to get activities going again for you as we've all suffered during lockdown. That said, we must do this safely and to this end we will be following the Parkinson's UK guidelines. We will be in contact with you soon but in the meantime, if you have any questions, please call us on 07707 710058 or use the contact page on this website.

Thank you for your patience, we'll be doing this as fast as we can but please bear with us as we do not know how the pandemic will unfold from here.

Tai Chi is the first activity we'll be starting, hopefully on the 17th May.

About Us - What & Why

What we do

Covering East Dorset we are here to help and support people living with & affected by Parkinson’s. This means that anyone - spouses, partners, carers, families affected by Parkinson’s can benefit from all of our activities, meetings and therapies.

We have a dedicated welcoming team for new members at our meetings to look after you and explain anything, so please don't delay in getting in touch to see how we can help you - you'll be in good hands.

The first step is to either contact one of our team on 07707 710058 or via the contact form on this link, or to just come along to one of the meetings. Please note that some of our therapies/lunches needed to be booked in advance or for you to have been assessed, so please check the requirements beforehand. If you contact uis beforehand, we can then answer any questions you may have and send you the latest details of upcoming activities/therapies etc, including what you may need to do to join in.

Why we do it

We aim to give our members access to Parkinson’s Links through:

• Providing friendship, support & activities that people affected by Parkinson’s have told us they need to stay in control
• Working in partnership with other organisations to provide that support
• Signposting our members to information, support & services available.

Frequently Asked Questions

When and where are your monthly meetings?

Our main monthly meetings take place on the 3rd Thursday of the month at The Beacon Centre, St Mary's Church, Church Road, Ferndown, BH22 9EU. Meetings start at 2pm and are finished by 4pm. Bottomless tea and coffee are £1.50 per person which includes cakes.

Can I just come along?

You can indeed and you are welcome to bring anyone with you. We offer a 'Meet & Greet' service if you are new, so after registering at the desk inside the door, someone will be assigned to sit with and look after you, answering any questions you may have.

What therapies do you run?

We run a range of therapies for people - weekly: A physio led exercise class and an excellent tai chi session. Monthly: A singing class and a speech therapy class. An assessment is needeed for the physio class.

Any other activities?

We like to keep active on the social side too, with a monthly informal coffee morning interspersed with a monthly lunch so that there is one every two weeks. We also have the occasional ad-hoc event to get together throughout the year.

Does it cost to join?

Joining us doesn't cost anything, although we recommend people do sign up with Parkinson's UK and our therapies all have a small associated cost.

Volunteering

Like any organisation, we are only as strong as our members and we rely on the help and input from people to run as smoothly as we do. These are just a few ways you can help, so please consider joining in, as it's your group after all.

Committee

We have a small group of people who invest some time and effort into help the running and shape the group, whether helping the organisation of meetings or baking a cake. If this sounds like you we would like to hear from you as every job shared really helps in making a difference.

Website

The website is here to help make your life easier, so if you have an idea on what is missing or what you would like to see here, please get in touch (click here to use the contact page). We'll run it by our technical facility and do our best to include the requested functionality.

Join Us

We realise that we only reach a small proportion of people with Parkinson's in the area. If you know of someone or have an idea on how we can reach some of those we don't yet know, please get in touch (click here to use the contact page).

Current Openings

We are on the lookout for a few people to further our aims and maybe you could help us? Check out the current vacancies and get in touch if you feel you have what it takes.

Fundraiser

We have a need for a fundraiser who can approach businesses and organisations with the objective of finding out how they can help us. Ideally someone with experience in this area but must have a creative mind and an aptitude for communication with people. It is envisaged that only a few hours per week would be needed.

Initially please get in touch using the details on the contact page (click here to visit the contact page).

Marketing

Do you have experience as a marketing professional and a few hours per week spare? We are looking for someone to help us market our services and general profile within the community.

Initially please get in touch using the details on the contact page (click here to visit the contact page).
